Text link ads are the least distracting type of website ad. They can look like a portion of the text on the site, rather than an ad. They have a hypertext link followed by a short description of the product, site, or service offered. Text ads are the ad format offered by Google.

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are a way to advertise a product or service and to earn a portion of the sale of that product. You do not charge for advertising space, but rather partner with the site offering the service or product. When a sale is made, as an affiliate you earn a commission on the sale. To get started with affiliate programs, you need to find an affiliate network to join. ClickBank is an example of an affiliate network.

Keyword Ads

Keyword ads appear as text ads on sites related to the keyword. The ad is paid on a pay per click basis, and because the ads are relevant to the site content, they are less distracting. Google is a great place to start with keyword ads.

Pop-up Ads

Pop-up ads are the ads that float down over the content when a website is opened. You can see an example of a pop-up ad on just about any site you open. One problem with pop-up ads is that they are now being blocked by pop-up ad software.

Can You Expect a Profit?

Advertising on the web takes time to become profitable. The first six months, realistically, are a time of learning the ins and outs of web advertising. If you want to see income start coming in quickly, consider partnering with Google or Yahoo! and their keyword advertising services. You will have ads placed on your site that are relevant to the information you are offering.

No matter what service you use, Internet advertising is not a get-rich-quick option. It takes dedication, experimentation, and hard work. That being said, selling advertising on the Internet can grow to be an extremely profitable business, specifically if you have a high page rank on your site.
