Best Eye-Catching Rich Media Ads

If you are looking for a way for your Internet advertising to jump off the page and really stand out, then consider animated ads. The best Flash ads draw more attention than just about any other type of advertising on the Internet today. The rich media effectiveness that animated ads possess will capture the attention of visitors to your site and as such make the advantages of rich media all too apparent.

What is Rich Media Advertising?

Rich media advertising is a step above the standard display advertising we are used to seeing on the Internet. Rich media ads are interactive and ask the reader to do something or to actively respond in some way. Since these ads usually contain some sort of animation, often jumping out of the box of the ad, they engage the attention of the reader. At the same time, rich media ads also contain important information about the website, company, or service they are advertising.

One of the reasons that rich media companies are suddenly placing so many ads across the Internet is the increased use of broadband access. Rich media today is no longer hindered by slow load speeds. Although some people do still access the Web via dial-up connections, their numbers are shrinking daily. Currently, there are approximately 51 million broadband Internet users in the United States.

The best Flash ads often incorporate some sort of user interaction. This gives the advertiser the ability to measure the reader´s degree of interaction with the advertisement. It is not unusual for such ads to ask for some kind of input, which in turn allows the advertiser to assemble useful demographic information.

Rich media companies usually make animated ads using Macromedia Flash. Flash advertising banners currently make up around 40% of all Internet ads. Using Macromedia Flash, the ads can include both audio and video and still be easily loaded.

There are three main types of Flash ads available. Some flash ads are banner ads, which are located on the top or sides of the web page but do not overlap the page content. The second type is a floating ad, which pops out over the page. The user has to click the "close" button to make the ad go away, which guarantees some level of interaction with the advertisement. (There is a limit on the amount of time that such an ad can cover the page.)

The third form rich media advertisement is known as an expanding ad. These are similar in appearance to conventional banner ads, however, when the user´s mouse passes over the content the ad opens or expands to reveal more content.
